Who you are?

(All you Star Wars enthusiasts, no, I'm not trying to talk like Yoda...)
So.. Martin Scorsese has won as Oscar for the movie "The Departed". He has been nominated plenty of times previously.. about 6-7 times if I'm right.

Now, are we to assume that this is his masterpiece? His "Mona Lisa", if i may say so. NOT AT ALL. Scorsese has always been brilliant. He has directed many, many great movies like The Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The Age of Innocence and how can i ever forget Good Fellas.. my personal favorite. I have seen The Departed.. believe me, despite its dark, intriguing name, it is just abut watchable. It comes nowhere close to Raging Bull or Good Fellas.

So why didn't Scorsese win this well deserved "honour" earlier on? May be, just may be, his counterparts were just as good? So its not that Scorsese has finally become good enough, its just that the quality of cinema is rapidly deteriorating. Sad, i know.

If you think about it, you are not really who you are. (corollary to "you are who you are"..hehe)... you are only who you are with respect to others.
UGH!!

Mister Scorsese, hearty congrats. This is long overdue.

Departed should have never won the Oscar, let alone for best movie.. I don't know how many people know that Scorcese plagiarized this one from the highest grossing HK movie INFERNAL AFFAIRS, what a shame.. Not only the storyline even the the frame by frame movements.. Highly disappointing to see such a high caliber director degenerate to such a sorry state even without giving the due credit to the original..

1 more thing, there has been a huge mix-up here I think... Lord of the Rings and Yoda are two different regions and I'm not quite sure from which one you got your opening quote...

fyi, Jaideep, Scorcese did indeed give due credit to the original..if u look under writing credits section say in imdb.com, u will find William Monahan, Siu Fai Mak and Felix Chong...the last 2 were part of the original team that made Internal Affairs...and most scorcese lovers know this trivia...

Departed is not a Scorcese masterpiece because Di Caprio and Matt Damon are not exactly in the same league as De Niro (Marty's favorite), Joe Pesci and Harvey Keital... ok the screen play was "loose" or "not taught" at times, but still marty can only do so much with the talent at his disposal...

aside from raging bull (my favorite), taxi driver, mean streets, casino and good fellas,
scorcese-de niro worked a magic in "Cape Fear", a remake of 60s movie by the same name...kamal hassan and PC sriram used a portion of this movie's climax in their highly acclaimed "kuruthi punal", a remake of Drohkal...
