Madras, my love

Hello, all.
I'm typing this post amidst the flurry of last minute packing and also last minute panicking. Yes, I am leaving on my holiday tonight. Its going to be month long trip and i am back in Madras on the 2nd of July, which (of course) is the day my college reopens. So my battle with attendance starts right then. also, 3rd is chub's birthday so... my battle will probably continue on to the 3rd too. aiyo.
I want everyone to know that i love Madras. there is no other place in this world where i will find myself as comfortable or as heart-warmed. I'm touch by the beauty of this city. I was on my way to Spencer Plaza from Parry's the other day and i was at the signal where Spencer's is diagonally opposite on your right. On the left side of the road there were these beautiful ancient brick-red buildings with these ancient shops. It seemed so fitting. it would have definitely been paradoxical had there been some swanky designer store there. Instead there were these lovely antique artifact shops and all. There was also a Globe Detective Agency. Somehow that too made sense there. This rows of old lovely buildings, some renovated, some not, with domes, mirrors, carvings on the window panes and balconies with arches. What a sight it was. This old Madras architecture kept me absorbed in that long long wait at the signal and for that i was grateful. I even told my companion that we live in a beautiful city and we don't even know it. We really don't. There is so much more to explore and i hope i get the chance to do it.

But for now, i have to go and "explore" what is possibly the most advertised country in the world. Woo hoo.

By the way, i found a great caretaker for ozzy. She is a sweet delightful girl who was gracious enough to help me out. I owe her. And orkut is actually useful. Shocking.

that's it for now. Next post from CT, USA. Ta!

on reading ur other posts, I actually like all ur posts...you do enuf quantities of nakkal and kozhuppu based humor, that makes one a fine story teller...i dont know what u do or intend to do for a living, u seem to have a good talent for lighthearted stories...especially ur cribbing abt rickshaw-walas and likes...

am looking forward to what u gotto say abt CT...

this is a comment about the post on the movie "Departed"
-----------------------------------
@Jaideep:fyi, Scorcese did indeed give due credit to the original..if u look under writing credits section say in imdb.com, u will find William Monahan, Siu Fai Mak and Felix Chong...the last 2 were part of the original team that made Internal Affairs...and most scorcese lovers know this trivia...

Departed is not a Scorcese masterpiece because Di Caprio and Matt Damon are not exactly in the same league as De Niro (Marty's favorite), Joe Pesci and Harvey Keital... ok the screen play was "loose" or "not taught" at times, but still marty can only do so much with the talent at his disposal...

aside from raging bull (my favorite), taxi driver, mean streets, casino and good fellas,
scorcese-de niro worked a magic in "Cape Fear", a remake of 60s movie by the same name...kamal hassan and PC sriram used a portion of this movie's climax in their highly acclaimed "kuruthi punal", a remake of Drohkal...

that was meant to "taut"

@boston.vaal: thank you very much about the roger waters ifo... but goddammit im leaving CT on 1st.. oh man im utterly disappointed.. hartford is so close by! and yes, madon and idcaprioo are absolutely nowhere close to deniro. youre right. they do make a killer combo.

incidentally, it was de niro who recommended di caprio to scorcese, and named him as his successor to their partneship...:-)

after 3 movies with scorcese and 1 with spielberg, am not sure what de niro saw in di caprio to name him as his successor...di caprio is good for movies like blood diamond, matt damon is good for movies like bourne series and ocean's series, just like schwarzenegger is good for terminator and conan the barbarian series...expecting anything more from them is very unreasonable...

marty relied on technical brilliance and strong dialogue delivery from lead actors...while he is still one of the best on the technical side, his dialogues dont carry the punch it used to in the past because of di caprio, damon and even jack nicholson (with his over-acting)...only mark wahlberg didnt spoil his reputation...

trivia (if u didnt know): marty is in the plans of making a sequel to departed with mark wahlberg taking over the lead role...

u can still find plenty of live concerts in NYC area and in particular at Madison Square Garden, this time of the year...check out livenation.com...you might find somethng interesting...

also, newport beach in RI, cape cod near boston, martha's vineyard and nantucket are good places to chill for a day or 2...any place north of MA is good for longer trips, especially Maine
